CELEBRATING SUCCESS
THE MERIT SYSTEM AND RECORDS OF ACHIEVEMENT
Fountaindale places great emphasis on the recognition of achievement in all areas of school and social life. The School has a thriving Merit and House System in which all pupils are involved. Pupils negotiate personal targets, both with their teachers in relation to their work and with therapists and support staff. Their achievements against these targets are recognized through the award of merits. A record of merits achieved is displayed and a certificate awarded every time a pupil gains 15 merits, including bronze, silver and gold certificates for achieving 30, 45, and 60 merits over a year.
Each pupil is also a member of a House Team (Newton, Turner or Bronte). Each individual’s merits go towards a House total and a cup is awarded each term to the House who achieves the highest number. House Competitions are also arranged on a termly basis and have to date included such events as outdoor and indoor sports days, mastermind and spelling competitions and open challenges.
Each half term an ‘Achievement’ assembly is held, for the whole school, in which particularly special achievements of pupils are celebrated with a Headteachers Award. Each year a prize giving afternoon is held in which certificates and trophies are awarded for outstanding achievements in both academic and personal areas. All these achievements form part of each pupil’s record of achievement, which builds up a record of success as a pupil progresses through the school.
